Driving licence & DVLA document translation
Certified translation of foreign driving licences and related records into English for DVLA-related applications and other official uses. Upload clear images of the licence and tell us what the translation is being used for.
DVLA context
DVLA rules depend on where the licence was issued, what you want to do in Great Britain and the application route involved. GOV.UK provides separate tools for driving on a non-GB licence and for exchanging a non-GB licence.
If a translation is requested for your licence or supporting record, send the DVLA instruction or application context with the document so the translation can be prepared for that use.
What gets translated
A driving licence is structured evidence. The translation should make the relationship between the original fields and the English text clear.
View language servicesNames, date of birth and other identity information shown on the licence.
Reference numbers and identifiers used to match the translation to the source licence.
Dates should be carried across clearly and consistently.
Licence categories, classes or entitlement information where shown.
Visible restriction codes, notes or conditions forming part of the licence.
Relevant visible endorsements, seals or handwritten notes should not be ignored.
Certification details
GOV.UK guidance on certifying translations says the translator should confirm in writing that the translation is a true and accurate translation of the original, date it, and provide their full name and contact details.

Common contexts
Translation requirements vary by organisation. Use the instructions from the body asking for the document rather than assuming every use case has the same rules.
Where an application, specialist permit process or supporting-document request specifically asks for an English translation.
An insurer or employer may ask for licence details to be presented in English before it can review the record.
Other organisations can request a translation where the original licence is not readily understandable in English.
Direct order process
Send both sides of the licence where relevant, plus any DVLA or recipient instructions. That helps avoid missing fields or translating the document for the wrong purpose.
Send clear images or scans of the front and reverse where both sides contain information.
Tell us the source language and that you need the licence translated into English.
Include whether it is for DVLA, an insurer, employer, rental provider or another organisation.
The document scope, certification route, price and expected turnaround are confirmed before work begins.
